A matter for vils, he made the observation.Dimples wrote:Henry wrote:Dimples wrote:Henry wrote:
Any culture generally, English culture specifically, I did not say it was an English forum though. Your argument, such as it is, is frayed beyond repair I think.
I didn't say you said it. You quoted my post in which I quoted that of Vils, so if you didn't want me to answer you back, maybe you should have replied without quoting my message or addressing it to me.
I have not mocked any culture - English or otherwise - so I'm still at a loss as to what your post even means. My post which said "English. Says it all really" challenges Vils statement that this is an "English forum", as if that is in any way relevant.Dimples wrote:
English.
That says it all really.
I think that post can fairly be described as mockery, albeit gentle, don't you?
No, I don't..
It was simple incredulity that someone would cite this as an being an "English forum" - as if that somehow explained everything.... another example of reductionism in action.
Re: Rolf Harris Arrested.
The fact that the corporate-owned media profit from, and Govt press offices delight in, these "revelations" does not require validation.Dimples wrote:Henry wrote:Dimples wrote:Henry wrote:
Tell that to the corporate-owned media who profit from it. And while your at it, the Govt press offices who pounce on these "revelations" as opportunities to bury bad news and deflect prole attention.
No I see it as nothing more than salacious scandalmongering, for which I have zero tolerance.
Doubtless the corporate-owned media and the Govt press offices privately agree with you. But it doesn't invalidate my observation.
Nor does it validate it either, as it happens.
Re: Rolf Harris Arrested.
No offence taken by me, vils, I think your observation is a valid one.vills wrote:Sorry, just been having lunch!
When I wrote English forum, I think I meant that class/caste were English problems/obsessions,
As compared to European.
The collocation of paedophilia and class made it in my view a very English subject.
No offence intended.

... which I have refuted.
I would not like to think that there were any perceptions that this forum should follow or adhere to any particular national, cultural or even political bias and I would not like to think that the views of those of us who cannot claim English heritage would still be permitted to speak freely or challenge other views without the anticipation of being silenced or shouted down for no better reasons than NOT being English, NOT being working class or NOT being an advocate for Socialist philosophy.
Who wouldn't?

I agree. So then my questioning the relevance of this being cited as an "English forum" stands.
I can't see that it is, or that it should be seen as an English forum and that's why I questioned why that has any bearing on the introduction of class into the discussion of this police operation.
As I have said repeatedly, I did not proclaim it to be an English forum. As for class, I will introduce it into a discussion as the fancy takes me. Even in England that it is not a crime.

That doesn't mean that we all share them in equal measure. There is reasonable diversity on this forum and others like it, which I see as been a major positive... but going back to my original point, preoccupation with class should not pervade every topic, even if it is seen by some as being an "English" tendency to do so.
Personally I blame Hegel and Marx... and neither of them were English.
Preoccupation with class does not pervade every topic. Unlike your hyperbole with pervades this one.

I think you may have omitted the word "no" from that sentence.
... and I have never suggested that you did proclaim it.
Yes, of course you can introduce it into every discussion if the fancy takes you but in doing so, you ultimately then merely change the topic INTO a discussion of social class which is what has happened in this very thread, which has now ceased to be about Rolf Harris.
Really, where?

Re: Rolf Harris Arrested.
Why are the presstitutes allowed this information and allowed to publish it?

Can you not read? I clearly stated up there "it should not", which does not equate to a statement that it does.
It should never have pervaded this one.... but you made bloody sure it did at the first opportunity.
I agree, it should not and it does not. We are as one.
