How much do people love their pets

Many UK pet owners prefer to hug their animals rather than a close relative when feeling low, a poll for a social networking website suggests.
Half of the 1,124 people quizzed for My Social Petwork said they acted in such a way and a third said they spend up to 30 days a year caring for their pets.
One in five has cancelled social plans to be with their pet, March's survey conducted by OpinionMatters found.
The website described its survey as the "UK's first pet census".
The survey suggested that one in five pet owners regularly uses social networking sites Facebook or Twitter to share pet images, and 10% of people have taken their pet to occasions such as christenings or weddings.
I love my dog to bits but take her to a wedding with me, that may be going a bit too far.

I wanted wedding pictures with my cats! Only Felix hurt his leg the day before the wedding, I actually thought he had been run down and was ready to cancel if I had lost him! Thank god it was just a sprain but he wasn't up for photos 
My mum gives me hell on a daily basis for the fact I am going away on holiday leaving the cat with the mums feeding her
given she's given me the same row for 20 years I am able to listen without rowing now lol I draw the line at not getting away ever because the cat misses me.

I've put photos of my animals onto FB and since losing the old boy and the cats have put some photos of them up in the house. They were a huge part of the family and I miss them but still not sure a wedding and Christening are the right places to take pets to.

I am the same jabby, though sophy is way more demanding and tends to get her own way if she wants to push daddy out the way for a snuggle with mum

I would love to have another dog but I wouldn't fancy going through the emotional side again if anything happend to it.
We got another dog after our old boy was put to sleep, not looking forward to the day that comes again because we were heartbroken but in making the choice to have another dog it was something we knew we would have to face.
I guess it's only something you yourself can decide.

But ravy, to shield yourself from pain is only half living, pain is a huge part of life.
I lost my beautiful big boy just weeks ago, I had him longer than my kids have been alive and I adored him... Yes it hurts but I would far rather hurt than never have had the joy and love he brought me.

A lot of people that I know have dogs so I can always take them out for a walk and pet them.
Ewwwwww I am getting a picture why you are single lol
I am NOT loving my cat right now, I just cleaned the bathroom and my shoes smell of bleach from washing the floor and weirdly she LOVES the smell of bleach
it's like catnip to her and she's biting and humping my blooming shoes here!

I haven't really had a huge problem with the moulting, and I have had two long haired, but the tend to have their own bed area so it's not all over sofas etc.

I synced my phone to the PC the other day and found a video taken not long before the end...of my boy...
had me in floods of tears again, though he was old and you could tell in the end it was so fast, a week before he had been as fine as an old old boy could be and still snuggled in, I miss that, wee sophy is still too young to be sitting too long in one place.

After 13 years it's something we are dreading. But her welfare is paramount not our feelings.
