Drunken soldiers in a war zone, add PSTD send them out to do their shift... he had been treated for the effects of overdosing on the vodka but I guess the army doesn't see a hangover from hell as an excuse to not do your shift...

I do understand why, it is the army after all, not nursery school BUT surely it would have been better to court marshal him then than put him out to be a danger to others and then need to court marshal for this. It could have been a lot worse too.

In hindsight yes, but soldiers have gone into the zone since time began under the influence of mind altering substances.. some of them with govt approval.......

No excuse for stabbing children in countries that we shouldn't be invading and occupying.
If the Nazis did it there would have been a clamour to join the resistance to slit some Nazi throats.

But he didn't.

August Landmesser was a worker at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, and is best known for his appearance in a photograph refusing to perform the Nazi salute at the launch of the naval training vessel Horst Wessel on 13 June, 1936. He had been a Nazi Party member from 1931 to 1935, but after fathering children with a Jewish woman, he had been found guilty of “dishonoring the race” under Nazi racial laws and had come to oppose Hitler’s regime….

[He] was discharged from prison on 19 January, 1941…. In February 1944 he was drafted into a penal unit, the 999th Fort Infantry Battalion, where he was declared missing in action and presumably killed.

He deserves a decent tribute and the people of this country has showed that they have been sickened by his murder...Certainly the people of SE London have honoured him as we have seen by the sea of flowers that have been layed by the Woolwich barracks where he was so viciously murdered for no apparent reason at all apart from bigotry and hatred.
