Adults who bite.....

I have known a couple of men who bite others ...one actually bit the nose off another man, it was found and after several operations his face was reconstructed in a fashion, it ruined his life.
What should be done when a public figure bites another....as Luis Suarez has done here for the second time in his professional career.
Is a fine, a course in anger managemnet and a few match ban a suitable punishment for this sort of offence?

A relative by marriage of my mum's did jail time for biting off a guy's nose... He's been good as gold ever since tbh

A little bite on the arm during a football match isnt the same as biting someone's nose off in a street brawl.

Suarez has apologised for the incident publically, and also phoned Ivanovic personally to apologise. There is no room for biting in football, or any circumstance really. A large fine, a hefty ban and a severe warning about his future conduct should be more than enough in this instance.

Some footballers have been sent off ten times in their career, some break legs, end careers, rupture ligaments etc... i don't think biting is any worse than breaking someone's leg. And lets get it in perspective, when we say he 'bit' him, there are huge degrees of difference between a bite. Suarez's bite didnt even leave a mark.

Biting is wrong, full stop. His previous incident wasn't talked about as much because it was in a low-key league and not the English PL. Other than fining him, banning him and warning about his future conduct, what more can be done for what was a small bite in the heat of the moment?

Mike Tyson bite an opponents ear clean OFF, and spat it out on the ring canvas. He was banned and fined, but went on to fight again. Some footballers have served time in prison for assault, drink driving, match fixing etc... and they still have a career.

There was a jaw dropping photo in the paper last week where you could see one footballer about to deliberately jump two footed onto the legs of a player on the ground. The following photo showed the stamped player to be in agony and given the metal studs on the boots, I'm not surprised.

This tackle from last week certainly left it's mark. Injured the player, yet the player doing the stamping was not even fined or banned. No action was taken, and no uproar. Why is biting deemed so far worse than stamping?

I would say the incident I described would be the worst of the two, he could have ended up with broken legs and the end of his playing career.

Both are assault and deserve some form of punishment but it shouldn't signal end his career I don't think.

The possibility of an infection, which can be cured by a quick needle, is worse than not being able to walk for 2 years after having your leg snapped in two? Seriously?

You said the word stigma. There is an abhorrence over bodily fluids from someone you do not care to share them with. I never said it was worse.

Probably because after the age of 2 biting is definately unacceptable in a civilised society. Young children learn that it's wrong pre school....kids can be expelled for biting.

To see a grown man bite is revolting.

Sports psychologist Dr Thomas Fawcett says..."It's in the man. I would think that in five years time if there was a certain nerve hit or chord rung with Suarez in a different situation he would react in the same way".

Maybe he will go for a hat trick?

So biting and spouting racial abuse is not as important iyo as his skill with a football?

Hopefully he will be fecked off sooner rather than later. He is a crap roll model for youngsters who look up to these players.

My opinion doesn't matter, his club's opinion is the one that matters. If he is valued enough and worth a lot of money, a club will overlook his bad behaviour because he gets results on the pitch. If a lower league journeyman had bitten someone, he'd have been sacked by the club. Liverpool cant afford to sack Suarez, he is worth £50 million and scores goals for fun.

Footballers are NOT role models. They are human beings playing a sport they have God given talent for. Any parent that encourages or allows a child to use a footballer as a role model is a poor parent.
