Suspended sentences for men who published images of James Bulgers killers
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22310412
Two men who published photographs on Twitter and Facebook said to show the killers of James Bulger have received suspended jail sentences.
Neil Harkins, of East Yorkshire, and Dean Liddle, of Sunderland, received nine-month sentences, suspended for 15 months, for being in contempt of court.
Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were convicted of murdering two-year-old James in Merseyside in February 1993.
There is a global ban on publishing anything revealing their identities.
Venables and Thompson were jailed for life following the murder, but were released in 2001 and given new identities.
A High Court injunction prohibits the publication of any images or information claiming to identify or locate the pair- even if it is not actually them. The order also covers material published on the internet.

Can you imagine the vigalantes who would crawl out of the woodwork if people like Thompson and Venables were identified online?
Yeah, much as people hate the two of them, vigilantiism is never the right course of action.

I'm assuming you mean Thompson and Venables here. I don't think anyone feels sorry for them but such is the feeling against them that half the country would be baying for blood.

Re: Suspended sentences for men who published images of James Bulgers killers
So everyone is under an injunction?? How in Hell can a judge have so much power?? Surely this can only affect the publications themselves. Not individual citizens? As a citizen I must have the right to submit anything I like for publication, those in the business should be responsible for upholding any high court injunctions. how is everyone supposed to know?? What If I arrived back in the UK and had no clue??

....Not surprising really considering what they did to the poor little mite..His injuries are listed on the net and many haven't been reported as they are so sickening and shocking..They are monsters.

Lot of people had the same kind of upbringing, and didn't brutally murder a toddler.

i would have to disagree with you there Syl...Lots of kids have bad upbringings and don't resort to evil like that.

They were given new identities when they were released from prison so the injunction is to prevent their images or new names getting into the public domain. These images were posted on FB and Twitter and they spread like wildfire on those sites so I guess it would be impossible for anyone in the business to stop them, hence i suppose the onus is on us.

I agree, anyone and everyone has had something in their childhoods which could cause some trauma. No one has had a perfect textbook childhood. It sucks, but when something is damaged to that degree, itisnt fair on the rest of society to set them free again. Hasn't one of them been convicted since of owning child porn??
I recently read of testing methods for children which can pin point which children may be psychopaths before they do any harm. I think they were an unfortunate mix of two psychopaths. They will always be psychopaths.

Thats true Phil...thankfully this was a very rare case indeed. The fact renains they were children when they commited the atrocity though...and very damaged children at that.
Yes and they had top class rehabilitation and education and now one of them is back inside for downloading child porn so that really worked didn't it

Re: Suspended sentences for men who published images of James Bulgers killers
It shouldn't be, if I am under an injunction I expect to have committed some crime and to be served the injunction papers personally. It is removing personal rights to enable a multi billion $$$$$ enterprise to run riot across the globe with little to no legislation to stop it. Two psycho little bastards committed a vile murder and 60 million people get served an injunction??Ali wrote:NAA wrote:So everyone is under an injunction?? Not on that one Phil but as far as I know (not heard any different) the other one hasn't done anything untoward, just seems to be getting on with what life he has.

True....these two are the exeption to every rule.
However I doubt if those kids had been from decent loving families they would have commited murder, their upbringing had a lot to do with how those particular boys acted.
There is no way of knowing that Syl and besides people who have been brought up in that environment have turned killer too. Maybe not as kids but killers nevertheless.

Re: Suspended sentences for men who published images of James Bulgers killers
It doesnt work, I know someone whose Danish wife worked in a special privately funded experimental unit for child sex offenders, meaning children who had committed sex offenses. It was established that once they had reached ten years old the damage was irreversible. The findings were submitted to the Blair govt, and promptly vanished, the unit closed down..philagain wrote:Syl wrote:philagain wrote:

Re: Suspended sentences for men who published images of James Bulgers killers
I don't have the statistics to hand but I have a feeling a large percentage of murderers had a perfectly normal childhood. Often with very loving parents. Somewhere, a switch falls in our psyche, no one knows when the time is or what can cause it to happen. When it falls it is almost impossible to switch back.Syl wrote:NAA wrote:Syl wrote:They were kids...horrible kids granted, but you can thank their upbringing for that.

So he has been lucky to not have met another psycho who can lead him astray. Could have gone either way.
