It was too radical for any govt to handle properly, the funding necessary would be beyond any first world country. However I noticed similarities from their research in the new testing on how to identify children who may be psychopaths. So maybe someone has it somewhere... She is I believe now working in a similar unit in Canada..philagain wrote:NAA wrote:It doesnt work, I know someone whose Danish wife worked in a special privately funded experimental unit for child sex offenders, meaning children who had committed sex offenses. It was established that once they had reached ten years old the damage was irreversible. The findings were submitted to the Blair govt, and promptly vanished, the unit closed down..philagain wrote:
Yes and they had top class rehabilitation and education and now one of them is back inside for downloading child porn so that really worked didn't it
That's disgusting

Whats that expression ..'give me a child till he is seven and I will show you the man' I think there is a lot of truth in that.
Tbh, I don't think any of us will explain why kids turn out bad because there are multitudes of reasons I think.

As a citizen I must have the right to submit anything I like for publication, those in the business should be responsible for upholding any high court injunctions. how is everyone supposed to know?? What If I arrived back in the UK and had no clue??
Ignorance of the Law is no excuse !

Usually a crap upbringing.
I was also thinking influences outside of the parental home, child abuse (not parental), bullying etc in fact anything that can 'damage' a child.

If a childs upbringing is good the chances of him/her being being abused or bullied outside the home should be noticed, it's the job of the parent/guardian to protect a young child from harm.
That isn't necessarily so Syl, kids have been abused and the parents had absolutely no idea, yes it's the job of the parents to protect the kids but then it's got to be said and hard as it sounds, does that make James Bulgers mother a crap mother because she didn't protect him?

No, I mentioned earlier, something, at some point in time flicks a switch, no one knows what it is or why it happened. One of the keys which form our personality our psyche, our sexuality even. So some children can have unbelievably traumatic childhoods and grow up to be perfectly functional adults. While some loved children from good homes can become murdering sick bastards.

Very much so, the innocent much loved none traumatised child who is the precious apple of his/her parents eye, can find themselves in kindergarten sitting next to a child who is sexually abused on a daily basis by his moms crack head BF........ The change in attitude, withdrawal can be put down to just normal starting school problems.. Years can pass before or if ever the parents discover their kid was being abused by another kid.

Stifling kids too I think can have an affect on them. If parents are too over-bearing kids can end up rebelling.

I'm a twin, so our formative years were pretty much identical, but obviously each child experiences the same things in a totally different way, we have massive differences in almost everything.Syl wrote:NAA wrote:Syl wrote:So do some believe kids are born bad? I firmly believe they are not.

Yes I'm sure all that is true. Personalities develop as we grow, children follow by example but obviously other factors eventually influence how a person matures too.

i don't think children are born bad either, but something was in one of those boys to do this awful crime, did the other follow, can two really have been this bad, having the same sort of upbringing, i dunno
i am surprised how many children aged 8 & up are left to their own devices, no boundaries on what they watch on TV.. children watching paranormal activities, saw.. horror films! shocking really

It's impossible to watch a child every second of every day, she let go of his hand for seconds, it would be wrong to blame her. Children have been abused at nursery schools, so obviously abuse cant always be spotted immediately.
A lot of abuse can be prevented though Ali if the parent is watchful....but no one said it was foolproof or easy being a parent...it isn't.
He was 2 years old Syl, letting go of his hand should never have been an option tbh.
I'm not really knocking her, I've had 2 year olds and know how much bloody hard work they can be, just making a point how easy it is for something to be missed with quite disastrous consequences.

The sexuality part of that is a bit ambiguous though..I've known that i was gay for all of my life and i have never been attracted to a woman..albeit the early part of my childhood was a bit traumatic but it was the same for my brothers as well and they are both straight but imo it might be different for people that are bisexual that might be able to pick and choose ..Of course i don't speak for all and i can only speak from a personal perspective

Probably an environment of greed.philagain wrote:jackb wrote:The biggest influence is envornment.

The environment doesn't start and end in the home.
I come from a very very straight family.
Lots of love and laughter and nevr went without.
All reasonably well educated none of them even have a speeding fine and then theres me.
I needed more ... I needed something different.
Was I born that way?
Maybe.
Was it my environment ... I think so.

...I'm no ...But my other two brothers are and are professionals...never been in any kind of trouble but i was a couple of times in my earlier days..Perhaps it was the pressure to be good all of the time ...One of my siblings hung around with the worst crowds and was hardly ever at home..Me i used to watch Dallas with my Mum ..Perhaps i just rebelled a little bit later!
