Ah but there are olives and olives, Phil. There are a lot of delicious olives but a lot of very bitter ones. I'm no expert on which are the ones to avoid but NAA or Sunny might know. I should ask them...
They are very much an acquired taste for many people. I have only very recently found a taste for them myself and as say, I find it depends on the type of olive as to how nice they are.
....Black olives and i have to pick them off certain pizzas as well when i forget to mention not to put them on at time of ordering
I don't just mean the colour of them Phil. There are different varieties of olives grown in different parts of the world and they do vary widely in flavour.
....Just not interested in experiencing them any further...I had two types of them and that was enough for me!

I do like seafood, but jellied eels? ..........Pass!!
I don't even think jellied eels count as food, to be honest...
Ha, see, now there is something neither of us would eat

I'm with you on the brown sauce, mayo and mustard Jabby, don't like salt and pepper either but I have to confess to liking my cheese. I ike most sort of cheese so long as it doesn't have any veins in it or other stuff.

tbh, I can't be arsed looking for a proxy to the place to see what's been said. I've been IP banned from there for months and months now so we will call that an end of it.
Now back on topic of food fastidiousness
Hmmm....I can't stand olives!...They are bleeding horrible and people would have to be off their nut to like those imo!...When you go to Spain they have them free on the tables at some places!

Only one type, Kalamata Lux. big fat juicy black, if not available I can eat plain Kalamata .. nothing else will do. I actually own 90 olive trees, the olives go for oil, nasty bitter tasting small things... ewwwww.
My FiL has a few olive trees in Kalamata, and he makes a few jars of them with garlic, origano and lemon.. very yummy but you cant eat many without turning toxic..

Re: Food fads
I hate it in the summer when you sometimes make a sandwich and then you see little green mould spots on the bread when you start to eat said sandwich ...I'm sure that bread used to last a bit longer in days gone past!

Don't you keep your bread in the fridge, phil?
My partner always used to put it in the fridge...but i was always brought up where it was put into a bread box...putting it in the fridge always seems to dry the bread out so perhaps i should start to put it in the fridge again

We store ours there. It does seem to make it stay fresh longer. I think it's important to keep it in an airtight bag though because as you say, it may dry out more readily if there is air trapped inside the bag.
...Will try that one out

Penicillin
Would you eat the sandwich if it had mould spots on it then?

Re: Food fads
I've never stored bread in the fridge or sauces like some people do.
The pantry is good enough.
Never any room in the fridge for bread.
We do sometimes bung a loaf in the freezer.

....We do that but it still comes out very dry once it has defrosted.

Re: Food fads
I love black pepper and white pepper and will often have both on a meal.
White pepper for fish eggs veg black for meats and tomatoes.
With a few overlaps here and there.
The Victorians used to serve strawberries sprinkled with white pepper.

Pantries are ideal, if you have one because they are intended to be cool but I find that centrally heated homes aren't so good for storing bread because even if you try to keep your kitchen as cool as possible, it will warm up when you are cooking and I think that your ambient temperature is often higher anyway.
We have a huge fridge and 2 freezers plus another fridge freezer in the garage, so storing bread in a fridge isn't a problem.
Ah....Nail on the head! ....Central heating!
